The MCS Co-operative (MCS 391) or Project (MCS 485) courses offer real-life experience. Nothing can replace experience when it comes to obtaining employment after graduation. Opportunities abound for students to gain that experience by completing an internship, co-op or project through the MCS program or on their own.

MCS 391 MCS Co-operative Course is an off-campus job with an employer associated with our program (Click on "Industry Contacts" at left to see a list of companies who hire our students). These are paid positions. The student's progress is monitored by faculty and the student is required to make a presentation at the end of the co-op experience. The student earns three credits which can be used to fullfil the MCS program elective. Students are paid for these positions which are usually full-time (1 semester and 1 summer or 2 summers). This usually involves delaying graduation by one semester.

MCS 485 MCS Project Course. This is an opportunity to work on "live" projects for real companies or grant funded research projects supervised by a faculty member. The limited number of openings are filled through an interview process conducted by MCS Faculty and/or company/grant representatives.

Independent Internship. Many students find internship opportunities on their own and work throughout their student career at UW-W. There are opportunities to work for campus departments or companies and organizations off campus.

Employers of MCS graduates agree, "the more experience the better!"
